An expats guide to the Melbourne Cup

If you’re a lover of sport and dabble in the odd flutter now and again, it’s well worth a trip to see the Melbourne Cup. Flemington Racecourse hosts the meet at the beginning of November and, with a capacity of 120,000, there’s no shortage of seats.

Rekindling won the encounter last time out and he will return to the course to defend his crown. 2016’s winner Almandin was highly tipped for success but as called by a few, it was not meant to be.

Expats from the UK will be able to like this event to Aintree’s Grand National as the Melbourne cup is dubbed as “The race that stops the nation”, and or good reason as offices all over the country will be turning out to pubs and venues for a good old spot of ‘team building’.

If you’ve recently migrated to Australia, this will surely be an eye opener into the new experience of a work-life-balance.

The Melbourne Cup is held on the first Tuesday of November annually at exactly 3pm. The horses will then set off on a 3200m flat race around the course.
